Mahdi Choudhury appointed Deputy Secretary (Membership)

The Marylebone Cricket Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Mahdi Choudhury as Assistant Secretary (Membership).

Choudhury will join Lord’s management team, led by Managing Director and Secretary Guy Lavender, and take up his new role in July.

He will take on many of the responsibilities of Jamie Clifford, who stepped down as Assistant Secretary (Membership and Operations) in December. Guy Curry filled the role on an acting basis.

Mahdi will assume responsibility for matters relating to membership, including general meetings, annual report and accounts, club rules and regulations, and other MCC policies and procedures. He will also oversee our community development, heritage and collections and ticketing departments, as well as liaison with the MCC Foundation.

Choudhury’s experience includes serving as Managing Director of the British Athletes Commission (BAC), Independent Director of the European Rugby League Federation and Advocate for the British Olympic Association.

He has specific skills in the areas of law, governance and member engagement. Responsible for the areas of compliance, he has served as both chair and secretary of various committees and has taken responsibility for the successful organization and holding of large-scale international AGMs and congresses.

Cricket is his greatest passion, playing club cricket in both Lancashire and London, and avidly following the game at club, county and international level.

Guy Lavender, Managing Director and Secretary, said: “We are delighted to appoint Mahdi as Assistant Secretary (Membership) and look forward to him joining the leadership team.

“His past work in sport, and in particular on complex issues of member engagement, will allow us to continue to develop and enrich the services and experiences of our members. “

“I would like to thank Guy Curry, with whom we have had the good fortune to work as Acting Assistant Secretary (Membership) since the start of the year. His legal skills and expertise, his experience with MCC and, above all, his professionalism have been of great service to the Club.

“I look forward to contributing to the continued development of the Club’s ambitious strategy”

Mahdi Choudhury said of his appointment: “As a longtime cricket fan, I am delighted to join MCC to work with the team and members in what is an exciting chapter in its history.

“I look forward to contributing to the continued development of the Club’s ambitious strategy and to continuing to provide exceptional service to its members. “

As Assistant Secretary (Membership), Choudhury will assume responsibility for membership matters, including general meetings, annual report and accounts, club rules and regulations and other MCC policies and procedures. He will also oversee the Community Development and Heritage and Collections departments of MCC.
