With 34 years of experience in the United States Navy, United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and as a commissioned officer in United States Air Force, Mr. Geurts brings unparalleled perspectives and knowledge in acquisition, research and sustainment, enabling operational forces. Before his retirement in August 2021Mr. Geurts served as Under Secretary of the Navy, serving as Chief Operating Officer and Director of Navy Department Management. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Geurts served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition from 2017 to 2021. In this role, he oversaw an annual budget of $148 billion, covering all research, development, acquisition, production, contracting and sustainment for the US Navy, US Marines Corps and allies and partners. In this role, he became widely known for his leadership in driving acquisition innovations to enable business results. In addition to his executive service, Mr. Geurts has decades of leadership and acquisition experience in a variety of roles, including a position as Director of Acquisition for USSOCOM, where he was responsible for acquisition, science and technology and logistical support for all special operations.
