Franklin hires former assistant manager of Waynesville as next general manager
After months of interviews and nominations, Franklin City Council voted unanimously to appoint Amanda (Amie) Owens as the next CEO. Owens will fill the vacancy left by Summer Woodard, who has resigned to a new position with the Town of Reidsville.
Most recently, Owens served as the Assistant General Manager of Altavista, Va., A position she obtained in 2020. However, prior to that, Owens held several positions in Haywood County working for the City of Waynesville.
Owens began her tenure in local government in 2012 as Executive Assistant / Deputy Clerk for Haywood County. In 2014, she was hired by the City of Waynesville to fill the position of City Clerk. Owens then briefly served as Director of Administrative Services for Waynesville before being hired as Deputy Managing Director in 2016, where she worked until she moved to Virginia.
During her tenure, she managed the day-to-day operations of the director’s office, held the positions of director of human relations and information technology and responsible for public information.
A graduate of Pisgah High School, Owens attended Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, then Montreat College before spending 17 years in the healthcare industry. Owens received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Montreat College and went on to earn a Masters of Public Affairs degree from Western Carolina University. She is a certified professional by the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and a member of the International City / County Management Association.
Franklin Mayor Bob Scott said he was working to set up a meeting with local media to officially meet with Owens for an interview. Owens is due to begin work on the town of Franklin next week.
