Deputy Director Osian Roberts takes the press conference

Coach Patrick Vieira was not there to attend this week’s pre-game press conference after being called up on a family matter.

Assistant manager Osian Roberts answered questions from the media and here is what he said ahead of Palace’s trip to Manchester United:

  • On Vieira and if he will take over Sunday’s game, he said: “I hope so. We just finished training but I haven’t spoken to him since training but I will speak to him this afternoon . I expect normal service will resume this weekend “;

  • Asked if Ralf Rangnick’s arrival at United made preparation more difficult, Roberts said: “When a new manager comes in there is potential for change. We will have to wait and see and focus on what we normally do. He is a very respected coach and he has a group of players who will want to play for him. For us, it will be about focusing on our style of play “;

  • Joachim Andersen has missed the last two games and appears to miss Sunday’s game. Roberts says the club are evaluating him “day to day” and so is James McArthur;

  • The Eagles have conceded a number of goals from set pieces and their problems defending corners led to the penalty and defeat at Leeds. Roberts said they weren’t going to “ignore these issues – we are trying to deal with them.” He added: “We are talking about levels of focus. We realize that we have conceded too much on set pieces.”
