Last week, the White House announced that President Biden intends to appoint Dave Uejio, who is currently Acting Director of the CFPB, to the post of Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
In January 2021, President Biden appointed Rohit Chopra as director of the CFPB. Mr. Chopra is currently commissioner of the FTC and it was widely believed that to avoid the possibility of a Republican majority, the White House sought to delay Mr. Chopra’s confirmation as director of the CFPB until the President Biden occupies the FTC seat of former President Simons. On June 15, Lina Khan was confirmed as Commissioner of the FTC and sworn in as Chairwoman of the FTC.
Ms. Kahn’s confirmation likely paved the way for Mr. Chopra’s confirmation as director of the CFPB and observers believe Mr. Uejio’s nomination as HUD deputy secretary could lead to a Senate vote very soon. on Mr. Chopra.
