Assistant Manager, Banquets Charlotte Convention Center

Job Summary:
As the Assistant Banqueting Manager, you will be responsible for assisting the Banqueting Manager in managing the day-to-day execution of all banquet functions at the Convention Center and NASCAR Hall of Fame; continue the effort to provide exceptional customer service, customer experience and financial return for the restaurant service. Specifically, you would be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards.

Essential duties of the position:
• Attends a weekly/bi-weekly service meeting with Catering Sales, Chef and Operations Manager to discuss the menu for each event and levels of execution required to meet expectations
• Sets expectations for banquet service levels per event and monitors events to ensure these expectations are met
• Provides Banquet Captains with planning requirements for each event so they can schedule staff to execute and complete the preparation process before and after the event
• Monitors and develops performance of team members to include, but not limited to, supervising, planning, coaching, evaluating, and delivering rewards and recognition
• Monitors payroll for the entire banquet department and calculates payment of gratuities to staff to ensure all salary expenses remain within authorized budget for each event
• Oversees the billing of each customer service order and ensures the accuracy of invoices for each event
• Presents the banquet invoice to the client for signature at the end of the event
• Serves as a liaison between the banquet department and other departments within CRVA to ensure that all expectations for events are met and any issues are resolved in a timely manner
• Helps manage “Chefs” table tastings as needed to showcase menu options and service experiences for potential customers or recurring events
• Interacts directly with customers and guests onsite and during the event to monitor event progress and ensure their needs are met
• Ensures compliance with health, safety, sanitation and alcohol awareness standards
• May perform other duties as needed
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule which may include nights, weekends and/or holidays

Scope of responsibility:
• This role has limited budgetary responsibilities
• This role will have periodic access to confidential data including financial statements, company records and/or minutes, customer quotes, company plans, designs and programs

Responsibility for oversight:
• Manages banquet captains and banquet supervisors who oversee over two hundred catering staff at events
• Responsible for the general management, coordination and evaluation of the banquet service
• Supervises up to two hundred non-supervisory employees in catering during events in the absence of a banquet supervisor or captain
• Assume supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws
• Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; plan, assign and direct work; assess performance; handle complaints and solve problems

Training and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school; and four to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• To perform this job successfully, a person must have knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite; catering equipment; and two-way radio.
